March went by quickly and it’s time for me to review my Yakezie Challenge progress again.
If it’s your first time reading this series, I joined Yakezie Challenge back in August 2015 with hopes of reaching Alexa ranking of 200,000 within six months. I didn’t reach that goal but I decided to keep working on my blog and slowly improve my ranking at my own pace. March was the eighth month since I started. As usual, below is my summary for the past month.
Alexa Ranking Change
In my last report, my Alexa ranking was 1,849,610. My ranking continued to improve last month, reaching 1,427,206 by the end of March. However, my US ranking got much worse, dropping from 166,344 to now 636,984. I believe it is due to the fact that there’s fewer percentage of my traffic coming from the US in March.
Overall I’m not quite pleased with this outcome but considering the fact that had to work 12 hours a day, 6-7 days a week in March(it will continue in April), which gave me very little blogging time, this result is not surprising to me.
Google Analytics Results
My pageviews are slightly improving – I had about 100 more pageviews in March compared to the month prior. There’s a few things I tried in social media, including Twitter, Pinterest, and StumbleUpon.
For Twitter, I was following CashFlowDiaries’ strategy. I didn’t get 1,000+ follower in March because didn’t use Crowdfire and Statusbrew every day as suggested by CashFlowDaries, mostly because I had been so busy. I did get 118 new follower in March and Twitter generated 18% of my total sessions in March, while in February, I had nearly no traffic from Twitter. Apparently it’s working and I’ll keep doing the same for Twitter in April.
I tried Pinterest and StumbleUpon toward the end of the month which turned out to be a good trial. The increase of my pageviews in late March was from the two sites. In Pinterest I created three boards: Spend Less, Save More, Grow Your Money, and AllMyCreditCards. Please follow me on these boards and pin any images you like! You can also find my StumbleUpon lists here. The key to getting traffic from these two sites is creating beautiful images for each blog post – I’ll work on that for my old posts.
Did I Reach My Goals for March?
Goal 1: Alexa ranking – reach 1,400,000 by 03/31/2016. Fail. My ranking was still pretty close though, at 1,427,206, so I’m not too disappointed at the result.
Goal 2: Page views – reach 600 in March. Success! I barely reached that goal at 611 pageviews which was greatly helped by my experiment with Pinterest and StumbleUpon at the end of March. I definitely need to utilize Pinterest and Stumbleupon more in the future.
Goal 3: Make at least 20 comments on other blogs. Success!
Goal 4: Publish at least five new posts(excluding Yakezie Challenge report). Success! I published six posts in March.
Goals for April
Goal 1: Alexa ranking – reach 1,300,000 by 04/30/2016.
Goal 2: Page views – at least 600 in April.
Goal 3: Make at least five more title images for old posts so that I can promote them on Pinterest and StumbleUpon.
Goal 4: Publish at least five new posts(excluding Yakezie Challenge report).
Yakezie Challenge Progress – Other concerns/hurdles/thoughts
I’m setting pretty modest goals for April because I’m extremely busy with my business trip and the Internet connection is very unstable here – almost irritating at times. When writing this post, I had to restart my computer twice to regain the lost Internet connection! And because of my work schedule, I couldn’t follow my previous schedule of spending two hours a day on my blog and I don’t see there’ll be any change in April.
April will be a tough month for me. I’ll try my best!
