Hey it’s March now! I joined Yakezie Challenge on 08/01/2015 with an initial ranking of 22,946,875 aiming to reach top 200,000 within six months. Apparently I didn’t reach my goal as you can see from my last Yakezie Challenge Report. However, I decided to work at my own pace and make small progress each month. And now it’s time to talk about my blog’s performance in Month #7.
Below is the summary by the end of month #7 (2/29/2016), in the same good old format. 😉
Alexa Ranking Change
Good news! My Alexa ranking is still improving – it went from 3,4442,983 a month ago to 1,849,610! The ranking was nearly cut in half in the past month which I’m very pleased with. As shown in the screenshot below, since I restarted working on the blog regularly in late January, my ranking improvement has been pretty steady. BTW, that was my blog’s best ranking by that date (and I have a new record now by the time I’m writing this post) 🙂
Google Analytics Results
The stats in Analytics also look much better than last month. Even though the number of total sessions is similar to the month before, the number of users, pageviews, and pages/session, average session duration, bounce rate all have improved. There were some ghost traffic from January which I’m glad to see them disappear in February.
Did I Reach My Goals for February?
Now let’s review my goals for February.
Goal 1: Alexa ranking – reach 2,000,000 by 02/29/2016. Success!
Goal 2: Page views – I hope to reach 500 in February. Success!
Goal 3: Make at least 20 comments on other blogs. Success! I haven’t really been keeping track of all the comments I’ve made in other blogs, but I’ve definitely greatly exceeded the number of 20.
Goal 4: Publish at least five new posts(excluding Yakezie Challenge report). Success! I’ve published 8 posts in February.
This has been a great month for me. All the goals have been met! It feels awesome!
Goals for March
Goal 1: Alexa ranking – reach 1,400,000 by 03/31/2016. As I further improve on ranking, it’ll only become more difficult to have further advancement. I think 1,400,000 is a realistic goal for this month.
Goal 2: Page views – reach 600 in March. I find increasing pageviews has been the most challenging for me. I need to work more on social media and get more traffic there. I came across a great post on how to grow Twitter followers which I’m trying to implement, but unfortunately the recommended plugin SNAP – Social Network Auto Poster does not work on my blog. I need to find an alternative app. I’m also planning on learning how to utilize Facebook for traffic.
Goal 3: Make at least 20 comments on other blogs. This should be pretty easy for me, as long as I stick with my schedule of one hour a day on blog connecting.
Goal 4: Publish at least five new posts(excluding Yakezie Challenge report). Okay, even though I published eight posts in February, I don’t want to give myself too much pressure so five posts is my goal for March. Anyway, it’s at least one post a week.
Yakezie Challenge Progress – Other concerns/hurdles/thoughts
Since I started creating a blogging schedule, it has worked really well for me. I’ll continue to follow that schedule. One hour before going to work and one hour before sleep is not that demanding everyday but it motivates me to consistently work on the blog.
As I’ve mentioned in my last report, one major concern with my blog development in March and April is my business trip to China. I’ll potentially be really busy during that trip. Will I still have time for the blog? Also, for the blog, I’ll definitely need access to Google, Facebook, and Twitter, which are blocked by the “Great Firewall of China”. After some searching around, the only solution is to find a VPN that’s not yet blocked in China. Based on a review on the best VPN’s for China, I decided to go with ExpressVPN. With the convenience of unblocked Internet access, $12.95 a month is probably worth it. I just hope it’ll still work during the time when I’m there. Apparently, China is tightening Internet control. More and more VPN services are blocked. I’m having my fingers crossed.
