I joined Yakezie Challenge on 08/01/2015 with an initial ranking of 22,946,875 aiming to reach top 200,000 within six month. I can’t believe the six months is already over!
I have a full-time job which takes most of my time, and I recently relocated from the east coast to the west coast which made me even busier than usual. As a result, I really didn’t have as much time on the blog. Unsurprisingly, my ranking has dropped in the past couple months and I’m still far away from my goal. I have to admit, because of the embarrassing results I had thoughts of just completely deleting my Yakezie Challenge reports. But after some more thinking, that’s really not a good idea! In the end, what I decided to do is to continue the blog growth series and set more realistic goals for each month.
Below is my summary by the end of month #6 (1/31/2016).
Alexa Ranking Change
My last Yakezie Challenge update was month #3 report, when my ranking was 2,132,095.
Now, at the end of the six-month Yakezie Challenge period, my ranking dropped to 3,442,983(as shown in chart below). Interestingly, the ranking in the US is 533,278, which is better than my ranking at month #3, which was 756,178. It seems the US ranking is a little tricky and may not be that reliable.
The chart below shows my ranking change since August last year to now. My ranking started to drop at about November last year, which was when I began to be occupied with all the relocation activities. But on the bright side, compared to when I first started in August, my current ranking is still significantly higher.
Well, to be fair, my current ranking is still very low, so I’ve got a long way to go! I’m feeling motivated to keep working and improving this blog.
Visitor Engagement, Search Engine Traffic, and Sites Linking In
I will not talk much about these because my blog’s pageviews are still pretty low and there’s almost no search engine traffic. And Sites linking in doesn’t seem to greatly help Alexa ranking.
Google Analytics Results
My blog was left almost “abandoned” from 11/23/15 to 1/17/16. As a result, on many days the pageview was zero. Below is a chart showing my daily pageviews in January 2016. The total pageviews is 312 – in my standard it is not that terrible.
I know, I should raise my bar a little bit. 🙂
Goals for February
Goal 1: Alexa ranking – reach 2,000,000 by 02/29/2016. A ranking of 2,000,000 was about the best this blog has reached in its history. I’d like to re-reach that target by the end of this month.
Goal 2: Page views – I hope to reach 500 in February. This is challenging number for me.
Goal 3: Make at least 20 comments on other blogs. I’m setting aside 1h a day for blog connecting and social media, so I think I can do this.
Goal 4: Publish at least five new posts(excluding Yakezie Challenge report). I’m also setting aside ~1h a day for creating contents, in the morning before going to work. It’s actually usually less than 1h but I’m happy with that arrangement. I’ve already published two posts in February so this goal should be quite achievable.
Yakezie Challenge Progress – Other concerns/hurdles/thoughts
When I restarted to work on the blog, I set up a schedule for myself – as mentioned in the Goals section, 1h in the morning and 1h in the evening. I’m very happy with that plan and so far it’s worked well for me. It gives me the appropriate amount of motivation while not overwhelming.
However, one potentially big issue in the near future is that I may need to spend two months in China on a business trip. Google, Facebook, Twitter will not work there so it’ll be difficult for me to create new content (I often use google when writing a post), and I won’t be able to update my social media pages. I’m also not sure how reliable the Internet connection will be. I hope I can still access the blogs that I’d like to connect with – but I’m not too sure about that.
